Thinking of having a little get-together tonight at the house. [...] I figured like old times. You know, when parents have their annual PRIDE meeting while we all hang out and make fun of you all behind your backs.

Reunion is the first episode of the first season of Runaways and the first episode of the series overall.[1]

Synopsis

A group of six Los Angeles teens, fractured by a tragic loss, reunite only to discover that their parents may be hiding a terrible secret that turns their world upside down.[2]

Plot

SPOILER ALERT

In the dead of night, a young women, Destiny Gonzalez, travels the bus-line to Union Station; she gazes at tall, glittering lights of Los Angeles buildings in the distance. Arriving at the bus depot, she gets off the bus and makes her way down the street. Stopping at a payphone, she calls someone but the number has been disconnected. Continuing to walk the street, she stops into a laundry mat, asking another women if she knew of any place she could stay for the night. After asking another women, she still has no luck. Getting uneasy about a man watching her, she leaves and makes another phone call on the payphone. A women answers the phone but Destiny fights back answering. The women pleads with her to come home, as a baby cries in the background, but Destiny hangs the phone up without a word. When she attempts to walk away, two "creepers" begin to harass her, talking to her in Spanish. Destiny doesn't understand the two men and attempts to tell them but they cut her off and walk in front of her. One of the men grabs her and she fights him off, yelling, and runs out into the street. A large van slams on its brake to avoid hitting her. The two men come up behind her and pulls her away while she's screaming for help. Though Destiny doesn't speak Spanish, they're telling her that they're saving her. Two women from the van, Aura and Frances, members of the Church of Gibborim, use tasers to shock the men into submission. They ask if she's okay and lead Destiny to the van. The van is filled with other teens. Frances offers for her to check it out, that she'll have a hot meal, a shower, and a good night's sleep. Destiny hesitates and wonders if it's a cult. Frances denies her comment, telling her that they don't use that word and offers that if it's not for her then she can leave - no strings. Destiny, out of options, climbs into the van. The two men, recovering from Aura and Frances' tasers, believes that she would have been safer with them than going with the church.

Six months later, at the Wilder Residence, Alex plays video games while his mother calls for him. Her calls go unanswered while his father knocks on the door, indicating that it's time for breakfast. Alex apologizes but ignores his father. He notes that it's been awhile since he's seen his son play this particular game, Battlefront. Alex comments that it was what he used to play with her. Geoffrey offers to step in and play, but Alex declines, stops the game and heads towards the kitchen. The player history indicates that "SUPERAMY164" last played was 2 years ago. Alex greets Catherine as she prepares pancakes; he opts for orange juice instead. Alex, however, gets the hint - the special food, being extra nice - they don't have to do any of it. Catherine believes it's time, they gave him space at first but after two years, he spends all his time alone. Alex likes being with himself, plus, college isn't too far into the future and he can make new friends then. Geoffrey offers that the kids that know him when you're young - no one will ever know him like that again. He doesn't want Alex to give up on that; to give up on them. Frustrated, Alex lashes out, bringing up Geoffrey's old friends from the 'hood and how he's "keeping up" with them. Catherine and Geoffrey turn heads, disbelief about the attitude. Despite his frustrations, Catherine has to leave. She needs to prepare for court and for their annual PRIDE meeting, since they're hosting tonight. Alex reminds them that it's a volunteer charity organization and they could get out, if you wanted to, and not use it as an opportunity for a tax write-off. Geoffrey explains that the school PRIDE is building is going to do a lot of good for kids less fortunate than him; for kids from his father's so-called 'hood. Catherine departs to answer a phone call and Geoffrey gives him one more piece of advice. His friends are probably feeling the exact same way that his is feeling today. Alex dismisses the thought, that they're doing just fine. Geoffrey believes that, unlike Alex, they're just better at hiding what's really going on.

At the Minoru Residence, Nico gets ready for school; she applies her makeup and adds her jewelry. While putting on her tights, they rip. Her mother, Tina, pours herself a cup of tea in the kitchen and receives a notice from Wizey that the door to Amy's room had been opened. From a camera display, Tina watches Nico enter Amy's room. Tina heads to Amy's room, gaining attention from Robert, but she ignores him. Meanwhile, Nico rummages through Amy's belongings, searching for another pair of tights. Finding a pair, Nico's interrupted by Tina, questing why she's in Amy's room. When Nico attempts to leave, Tina reminds her of the rules - which she's not allowed to be there. Nico attempts to persuade her, that if Amy was her, that she could use her tights. Tina tells her that she's not here, yet Nico is adamant then it didn't matter if she took her tights. Pushing past her mother, she accidentally knocks down Amy's tennis trophy from her dresser. Tina freezes and stares at the broken trophy while Nico tries to apologize. Robert makes his way to the door but remains silent as Tina picks up the two pieces of the trophy. She gets on her knees next to her mother, telling her that it was an accident and that she could fix it but Tina, coldly, tells her to go. Robert asks her if she was okay, but she's not.

Meanwhile at the Stein Residence, Chase begins his morning by lifting weights. His mother, Janet, knocks on the door and tells him that breakfast is ready. Chase questions if he's there; to which he is. Chase, now ready for school, greets his father, Victor, as he sits down for breakfast. Making small talk, he tells his father that it was a big win against Harvard-Westlake and that he was sorry that he missed it. He is too and admits that he heard that he played great in the game. Unfortunately, Victor also hear he got a "C" in Spanish. Chase tells him that he's definitely going to try harder but this only infuriates him further. Slamming his silverware down, he tells him that if he was really afraid of him, he'd be getting an "A". Chase looks on in silence as Janet places down more pancakes. She serves Chase and they eat breakfast together.

Prior to school, Karolina, next to her father, Frank, attend a Gibborim ceremony hosted by her mother, Leslie. Leslie begins to closes the ceremony, telling her congregation that it is the simplest gift you can give, and yet the most powerful to let someone know - "Hey. I see you." That power is theirs to offer, because that gift is a smile. Parishioners, including Frances and Aura, look on, amazed, as she bring the ceremony to close with remarks from her father, David Ellerh. As the service concludes, Frank tells Leslie that he has to go, that his agent, Phil, wants to meet. He assumes that a personal visit must mean good news. Leslie bids members farewell but Karoline interrupts the next couple, wanting to ask her mother to sign a permission slip for a field trip to San Francisco, the Art Institute. Given the short notice, that trip is for that night, Leslie refuses, citing the Vanity Fair article. The writer was bringing a photographer and she needs her to be there. Karolina is the millennial face of the church. Karolina questions if she could do it another time, just this once, considering her mother didn't even ask her about it first. She believes that her mother assumes she'll do whatever she wants. Leslie dismisses her that she didn't ask because she has a lot going on. Karolina, rebuts her comment with the same sentiment, though she wouldn't notice.

Dale and Stacey Yorkes arrive at Atlas Academy with their daughters, Gert and Molly Hernandez. Waiting in the dropoff lane, Molly mentions that she's feeling sick. Stacey reminds her that they've had this talk before, that menstruation is a blessing, not a curse. She instructs her to do your breathing exercises and to drink the chamomile tea I put in your thermos. If that doesn't work, she could go to the bathroom and give herself an orgasm. Gert interrupts, but Stacey continues to explain that the oxytocins are a natural pain reliever. Dale tells his daughters that it's good adivce and that they should listen to their mom. Molly, despite feeling sick, is excited for Dance Squad tryouts. Gert believes that dance squad is just cheerleading without pom-poms and that she is just reinforcing hegemonic masculinity while marginalizing women's identity. Molly just loves the outfits. Coming to a stop, Stacey tells Gert that her new medication, with fewer side effects, is in her backpack. Dale offers some bran bars for constipation stemming from the Lexapro but ignores his jesture and exits the car; Molly bids them both goodbye.

On the Atlas Academy campus, Gert hands out flyers for her new club; Molly follows close behind. She spots Chase and hands him a flyer, though he accepts he keeps walking past her along with Eiffel, Brandon, and Lucas, the latter calling her a "loser" as they walk past. Molly comments on the scene, calling it "tragic". Chase sees Karolina and she greets them with "Hope you have a beautiful day" and a beautiful smile. Eiffel can't believe he was ever friends with her. Karolina stops to take a selfie and adds the hashtag "Blessed". She sees Nico, alone, reading while sitting on an upper ledge next to shrubs. Alex watches her from the second floor railing. Pulling out his phone it looks at an old photo of them all together - Alex embracing Nico, Karolina in the background, Molly piggybacking off of Chase next to Gert. Glancing another look at Nico, he calls his mom. He tells her that he's thinking of having a little get-together tonight at the house, like old times. While the parents have their annual PRIDE meeting, they'll hang out and make fun of them. Catherine amuses at his comment though Alex assumes that if they all say yes. She tells him that he won't know unless he takes a chance. She accepts his plan, offering that they'd love to see the other kids again. Alex asks for her assistance in getting pizza and soda for seven. He quickly corrects his mistake to six; he tells his mother that he has his.

Meanwhile, at the Wilder Residence's secret underground basement, Geoffrey hopes that having the kids over won't be a big deal. Catherine calms his nerves, that they used to do their annual meeting it all the time with the kids in the house. Tonight is no difference and besides they're all teenagers and the last thing they're interested in is what their parents are doing at a charity meeting. With Karolina off to school, Leslie meets in her private study with a grim looking, decrepit figure with a unique face mask. Leslie takes the man's hand and tells him that "we're ready" and that tonight another becomes eternal.

During home room, Gert address the class about her new club. She gives the premise about the lip service they get about women's empowerment, as if women aren't already powerful, and how they never hear anyone talking about masculine authority. Of they don't, because it's already baked into the concept; she explains. Her point being that the system needs to be dismantled, which is why she's starting a new club on campus, "Undermining the Patriarchy". Nico stands, disinterested in Gert's speech, as she read through her book on Wicca. Alex watches her, but he hasn't gone unnoticed. She glances over but doesn't say a word. Gert continues, that together, they can celebrate their self-worth while taking down "the man"! They class is underwhelmed and silent. Gert reaffirms herself, stating that she only need four members for the club to be officially recognized by the school. Megan, the homeroom teacher, tells the class that Gert has prepared some literature and to just raise their hand if they're interested. There are no volunteers. With no other announcements, Megan gives them free time until the bell for first period. Alex greets Chase as he makes out designs on his tablet. He questions if they are his "handblasters" and that it's cool he's still working on them. Chase corrects him that they're not handblasters, they would be bionic prosthetics using myoelectric sensors. He begins to tell him the device's name, but comes to the confusion of why he's even talking to him. Alex confesses that he was talking to him, in fact, and though about, maybe, getting together later that night - like they all used to do. Chase questions if he thought he'd just come over to hang out like they're still friends. Alex wants him to keep his voice down but Gert has overheard the proposal and believes him to be joking. Alex expect this from her and hoped to get Chase on board with the plan first. Gert cuts him off, mad at the thought that all of her decisions would be based off of what some "roided-out jockstrap" had to say. Chase takes offense and explains that he has his own opinions. Gert, again, insults his intelligence by insinuating that his opinions are based on what flavored protein powder to use. Alex mediates the "delightful banter" and believes that is the reason why they should all get back together and hang out at his place. Karolina over hears the conversation and wonders if he's having people over. Chase speaks up, wondering if she's interested, but she declines, stating that she has a church thing. Alex offers that she could come by afterwards as to not interfere with her religion. Gert, however, questions if "religion", is what they're calling it? Karolina reminds her that what she believes in is positive and life-affirming, and it doesn't allow her to be cut down by some miserable loser. Gert lashes back that no other institution has been as oppressive to women as organized religion. Karolina rebuts back that her mother runs her church and, despite calling herself a feminist, she believes that no on cuts down other women moreso than Gert does. She admits that she doesn't cut down all of them, just the ones who walk around with fake smiles, pretending to be happy all the time. While Gert continues to argue, the class bell rings and Karolina leaves; Nico packs her belongings and leaves as well. Brandon and Lucas enter the room and call out to Chase. He tells his former friends that he has to go. Alex remembers a time where Chase used to make fun of guys like them, though now, Chase admits, they make fun of kids like Alex. Gert wonders that he wanted them all to hang out. Alex admits it's not for him, though.

At dance tryouts, Hanna finishes her performance for Eiffel. Next, it's Molly. The music cues and Molly starts her dance number. Moments after starting her routine, she immediately stops due to extreme stomach pain but attempts to push through the pain; Eiffel watches on. Molly stops again, tellin her that she has some bad cramps. Eiffel suggests that she go to the meditation center and breathe through the pain or the nurses' office. She can reschedule her routine for another time and calls the next participant up.

Elsewhere, Chase walks with Señor Walter, pleading with him to find it in his heart to reconsider his grade. Walter tells him he doesn't grade with his heart, but his head. Chase knows it's been messing up and wants to change, but he needs a little help. He asks if he can re-take the the midterm or do a project for extra credit. Walters suggests that next time, he should try studying. Chase pleads one more time, he can't get a "C". He appreciates his new enthusiasm for learning, but there's nothing he can do. Walter heads into class and Chase, full of rage, slams his fist into a locker. Gert, however, was walking behind the two the entire time and heard everything. Only when Chase notices her, she attempts to break the tension, offering that Señor Walter is such a dick. Gert also adds that Atlas Academy is an elite Westside private school, and if one of his overprivileged students wants his grade changed, then it's going to happen. Chase only then wonders just how long she was listening - Gert knows he needs help. Chase tells her that his dad is on his case for his average grade and that he couldn't ask for him to pay for a tutor. Gert suggests that he could ask her, she could help him learn Spanish as his tutor. She knows that he's in dire saving and given her mastery of the "foreign tongue", it would be selfish of her to not share her skills. She demonstrates her skills and Chase accepts, tonight they'll meet at Timely Coffee and study.

While Gert and Chase part ways, Lucas and Brandon meet up with Chase. Lucas tells him that Brandon's cousin is promoting at some downtown party that night and was told to invite whoever they wanted, no IDs needed. Chase reiterates that it's tonight and he insists that they're going.

As Karolina walks across campus, surrounding students being getting text alerts on their phones and some begin to laugh. One student even calls out, "Check out the freak show!" Karolina, too, receives an alert and checks her phone. Meanwhile, Nico walks the halls, stopping at a trophy display case. She turns to leave but Alex stops her; he's been wanting to talk to her all day. Actually, much longer than that. Stemming from the disaster from homeroom, he reiterates that he wants to get everybody back together, despite that he's the only one that feels that way. He knows that it can't be like it was before Any's death, but the truth was that he miss eveyone. The real truth, however, was that he missed her. He waits for her answer, but Nico ignores him and points to her earbuds, claiming that she missed his entire speech. Alex gives her a slight nod and she walks away. Nico press the play button on her phone and another song begins to play. Alex remains at the display case mere moments, overlooking Amy's plaque before he leaves.

Karolina, upset at having seen the message that was sent to the student body, hides away in the girl's bathroom. Someone took her previous selfie and altered the photo and added the hashtag "BRAINWASHED". As she cries, the bathroom door opens and closes as another student enters. It's Nico - she's crying too but she stops when Karolina leaves the stall she's in. They lock eyes and she asks if she's okay. "So good", Nico responds and asks about her. Lying, Karolina believes it's just allergies. Nico begins to reapply her makeup but catches Karolina staring. She tells her that if she wants a tutorial, she should check YouTube. She apologies but tells her that she doesn't need all the make and she doesn't need to hide who she really is. Nico tells her that while some people hide behind make, others behind a smile. Call it what you will, it's still hiding. Nico shows her a smile and she understands.

Molly, still suffering from her cramps, sees the school's nurse. She hands her some medication and tells her it will take time before it will kick in. The nurse wonders if he's spoken with her mom, if she has the same issues. Molly explained that she was adopted. The nurse tells her that her birth mother made a brave choice, but Molly corrects her, telling her that she died in a fire and the Yorkes are really nice. She also explains that Stacey's very knowledgeable about herbs and breathing and stuff, but none of it seems to be working. The nurse has to step out for a moment and tells her that she'll be right back. Molly continues to struggle with her cramps, until her eyes glow yellow and she binds the metal table she's sitting on. The nurse calls out, asking it everything is okay. Molly's eyes return to normal and confesses that she feels way better.

After school later that day, Karolina meets Lisbeth just as Leslie has asked her to do. For the article, she tells her that there are so many young members of their congregation inspired by their message, and not just because they have cool free jewelry. The day that members get their Gibborim bracelet is one that you'll never forget. She on the other hand, feels as if she was born with her, that she's never taken it off. Destiny spots Karolina and interupts the interview. She apologies to Lisbeth for interrupting but wanted to tell Karolina just how grateful she is for everything that Leslie has done for her. She confesses that her own parents weren't there for her, that her life was one big rebellion, full of drama and chaos. She pauses and apologies again, she's giving her testimonial and tells Karolina that she's lucky to have her mom and begins to walk away. Karoline briefly stops the interview and follows Destiny, asking if she can elaborate. Destiny begins to talk about Leslie, but Karolina wants to know more about rebelling and what it was like.

At the Yorkes Residence, Molly arrives home before Dale and Stacey. She heads into the garage and sees if she can get what happened earlier to happen again. She tries to pick up a an old van but fails. She relents and decides to start small. She picks up a tire iron and demands it to bend but, again, nothing happens. However, the van comes loose off of it's ramp and begins to roll forward towards Molly. She notices it before it hits her and her eyes glow yellow once again and she successfully pushes it back on to the ramp. Despite her overwhelming excitement, her abilites greatly tire her out and she collapses on the floor, asleep.

At the Wilders, members of PRIDE, including Geoffrey and Catherine, Robert and Tina Minoru, Dale and Stacey Yorkes, Victor and Janet Stein and Leslie Dean causally meet and make small talk over finger foods, cheese and drinks. Robert approaches Jenet, asking if she's done something different with her hair. She has and thanks him for noticing. Victor, unamused, tells her to forgive him since he's too busy changing the world to notice that her bangs have grown out. Tina, however, berates the Yorkes, and what she perceives as their "disgusting" cheese wheel of brie. Robert admitts that he likes it. Stacey, unaware of Tina's comment, comes up to her and Robert, with an issue on her WizPhone, that it's not downloading her mail and wonders if she could take a look. Tine dismisses her immediately, stating that it's below her paygrade; she's the CEO of Wizard, not tech support. Robert, however, takes the phone, citing that they fixed that glitch in their new update and offers to download it. Dale pipes up to make sure that her music library is backed up, that she has got every tasty Phish bootleg going back to Burlington '92. Catherine, watching the Yorkes from afar comments to her husband how she'll never understand how they were allowed into PRIDE. Leslie tells her that everyone is there for a reason.

Alex arrives home. He immediately sees the food that his mother got of his party and hears his parents in the kitchen and makes his way towards them. Mean while, Dale compliments on the Wilder's home, that Geoffrey is killing it in the real estate game. Geoffrey's modest and attributes it to sound investments. Geoffrey, however wants to get started, but before they begin with the meeting, he toasts the good work of the PRIDE Foundation. Tina announce to the others that they've surpassed their fundraising goals in record time. Together, they toast - "To PRIDE." Catherine notices Alex has entered the kitchen and calls out to him, with Geoffrey wondering about where his friends were. Alex explains that he did, but as he points out the lack of guests, it didn't go well and he'll be out back eating his way through pizza for six and dismisses himself from their presence. Following his departure, Tina turns to Catherine and add that if it's any consolation, Nico's never been the same, either. Leslie offers her support to the Minorus as it is the anniversay of Amy's death.

Out back in the guest house, Alex turns on his record player and sits to play a video game. Elsewhere at the beach shore, Nico prepares a ritual around a large bonfire. As the evening wanes to night, Karolina makes her way downtown. At Timely Coffee, Gert sits and prepares flashcards as she waits for Chase's arrival. A Customer, breaks her concentration, who she initially mistakes for Chase, though all he wants is to borrow the chair. She respectfully declines, telling him that someone's sitting there and he'll be here soon. Meanwhile, Chase, Brandon and Lucas arrives at Brandon's cousin's party. Alex sits around, his active players list blank. Nico continues to prepare her ritual by lighting candles. Gert continues to sit and wait for Chase for their study session, though Chase doesn't intends to come. Karolina makes her way downtown though when the Lyft Driver briefly stops at a light, Karolina's faced with a Gibborim promotional poster. As Nico finishes her preparations, Alex texts the group an old group photo, hoping to get them to change their minds.

Karolina however arrives at the same party as Chase and he notices her arrival, but she doesn't see him. He smiles and attempts to make his way to her, but the mass of people block him. Karolina is stopped by Furry Bear, asking her if she wants to party and holds up a red pill. Intrigued, she reaches out and takes the pill, asking what it'll do. Fuzzy Bear simply tells her that it will set her free.

At Timely Coffee, Gert contemplates texting Chase but decides against it. Instead she texts Molly, telling her that she's still out, and to please feed the pets in Dale and Stacey's lab. Back at the Yorkes Residence Molly wakes to her phone buzzing of Gert's text. Molly, doesn't want to since it's not her turn, but Gert asks her to do anyways.

As Karolina begins to dance, she notices two girls kissing and dancing together. This prompts her to remove her Gibborim bracelet and she begins to glow bright pink and other hues of vibrant color but passes out and falls to the floor. Brandon and Lucas find Karolina and they carry her up stairs; Chase notices this and follows.

In Dale and Stacey's basement lab, Molly comes to feed the pets. She greets Fred, the parrot, and explains that she's come in peace and with birdseed. As she feeds the variety of pets, a loud noise is heard behind a large metal door. Startled, Molly's eyes glow yellow and fade as she makes her way to peer through the glass window. A large creature stalks to the glass and lets out a roar and terrifies Molly. She takes off in a run to escape the lab, her eyes glowing bright yellow; as she leaves, she rips the lab door off from the hinges and throws it to the ground and runs up stairs. She calls Gert and and tells her that something weird is going on and wants her to come get her, that she doesn't want to be there. Gert, confused, asks her where they're supposed to go, but Molly doesn't care, she just doesn't want to be there. Gert grabs her things and leaves Timely Coffee.

At the party, Chase climbs the stairs to the second floor, where he saw Brandon and Lucas carry Karolina too and beings to look around for her. Meanwhile Brandon leaves Karolina on a mattress and begins to unbuckle her skirt. Brandon tells him to close the door, as he turns to take advantage of her. Chase, disgusted at the thought, tells him to get away from her and lunges at him, pulling him off of her and headbutts him, knocking him to the floor. Lucas attempts to pull him back off of Brandon, but Chase retaliates, throwing several blows to the face. Brandon recovers and stops Chase and they both leave, but not before telling Chase that he's "dead". Chase turns his attention back to Karolina and fixes her clothing and places her bracelet back on to her wrist. She seems to immediately recover, unaware of what almost transpired. Chase tells her that he's getting her out of there. He asks how she's feeling and she tells him that the last things she remembers were lights. Chase assumes that it was drugs, something strong. Chase gets her a Lyft but she confesses that she doesn't want to be alone and definitely doesn't want to go home. As she get into the Lyft, she rolls down the window and tosses the red and blue pill she got from Fuzzy Bear, having never ingested it in the first place.

At the beach, Nico finishes her preparations and begins her ritual. Reading aloud from her grimoire, she speaks, "I summon the triple goddess in all her names, faces, and forms. I summon the mother, the maiden, and the crone. I summon you, who lived yesterday, to emerge from night shadows into the light." With the spell read, she begins to switch out lit candles for unlit candles and repeats "Emerge from night shadows into the light!" Beginning to break down, she screams "Show yourself here! Speak!" and calls out to her sister, Amy. With the ritual a bust, she throws the book on top of the fire.

Alex paces back and forth in the guest house, though he gets a text and goes to the front door. Gert, Molly, Karolina and Chase are all there waiting for him. The group photo had worked, though Gert wasn't please at how manipulative it was. Alex, however knows it was effective as almost all were there. Nico, however, walks up behind the group, asking if there's room for one more. With the reunion complete, he lets them in. They make causal conversation and he tells them there's pizza. Alex takes a sit, asking for suggestions, though Molly's offend that he's taken her chair. Nico, however, coldly tells him to sit wherever he wants, her sister is gone. Chase believes that what they are now is too weird and Karolina wonders if they just don't work without her. Chase decides that he's leaving, but Alex attempts to salvage their reunion. He tells them that they can't blame Amy for the fact that they don't hang out anymore, but Chase blames Alex - he didn't even come to the funeral. Karolina comes to his defense, that everyone grieves in their own way. Chase is adamant that he should have came, that he could have grieved at the funeral with her friends. Gert however, cites a much more recent event, rhetorically asking would would ever not show up when a friend is expecting them? Chase, guilt ridden, knows he stood her up for a party over their Spanish study session. Chase still believes however that Alex not showing up to the funeral was just the first crack in the wall of their friendship. Karolina, though, believes that it was bound to come down, that the only reason they were friends were because their parents were and they were bound to grow apart. Gert, however, adds that it's kind of hard to stay friends with someone when all they care about is being the perfect church girl. Karolina adds that it's better than the insufferable social justice warrior. Alex pipes in "or a dumb jock." Frustrated, Chase yells out "or Molly", though baring no ill will. Nico however was avoided. She wonders whatever she is now, it's not Amy and she's sorry that she let them all down. So much for Alex's party - pizza and sadness. Gert wonders aloud what they're all doing here they had moved one and were doing fine without one another. Karolina disagrees and she's sick of pretending that she's fine - they need to sit together and talk this through. If Chase is going to do this, he's going to need alcohol and sets off for the Wilder's study.

As they make their way across the yard, Nico stops Alex and aks him why he never came to Amy's funeral. Alex goes quite and doesn't answer. Nico guesses that his response doesn't make a difference. It wouldn't bring her back. She thanks him for doing this tonight - for her. Chase informs Alex that his dad's study is empty and makes his way to find the bottle of Pappy Van Winkle. Alex doesn't want anyone to touch anything, and Nico finds Tina's purse. All the parents are gone but Chase doesn't care. Unfortunately for him, the good stuff has been moved and settles for something close by. Gert walks over and tells her "hey", offering her a glass. Gert, still sore that he stood her up, muses that he clearly go a better offer, but Chase admits it not like that. He was just a total douche and wants to try again. Gert speaks to him in Spanish, though he doesn't understand her and Molly translates that what she means is "no". Alex reaches for a coaster but the instead finds a secret passage. Everyone's confused and excited, questioning where it leads, though Alex doesn't know. Gert wonders if it could be a bomb shelter, but Chase hopes for a wine cellar. Karolina offers another alternative, that in the past when religions are being persecuted, sometimes believers would build secret temples to worship. Gert makes the point that this is Brentwood and not Bethlehem. With only one other option, they descend the stairs to find out where it goes. Houses in LA, they don't even have basements, but whatever this is, "basement" is the right way to describe it. As they come to a landing, they find their parent in the middle of a ceremony. Gert points out she doesn't think the can hear them and Alex realizes there's some sort of barrier between them and their parents. All their parents are there and Leslie brings out a young women - Karolina recognizes her. Leslie forces her to drink from a strange goblet and the other parents crowd around the young wome. Concern for Molly, Gert tells her that she can't unsee this and pushes her back behind them. Tina raises her Staff and the pod open up before them with a blinding white light and they force her in. Molly confused wants to see what happened and uses her phone to take a photo, the flash however goes off and they are forced to take off in a run or face being discovered. The flash of light garners the parents attention and turn towards the landing, just missing their kids. Geoffrey wonders what could have caused the flash.
